Slot Car Races

Nothing beats a day at the races, especially if it is the slot car races. But before you start racing, it is a good idea to check out your car and make sure it is the best it can be. So put on your overalls, pick up your wrench and get to work!

Take a look at the wheels. They want to be spinning freely. Slot cars have rear wheel drive, so you will want to pay attention to the wheels at the back and make sure they are spinning the way you want them to. If they are not, then it is time to take off the body and do some maintenance.

Before you take part in slot car races, you want to break your motor in. Take a drive around the track, going ¾ speed for about 15 laps. This will have your engine nicely warmed up and ready to beat the competition.

Next thing, check out your tires. Most of the other cars taking part in slot car races will have replaced the factory tires with silicone or urethane tires. If you haven't done this, you can sand down the factory tires on your car. This is going to give you the best performance from a new set of tires. This is just what the professionals do. They scuff the new tires on a warm up lap, getting them hot and clean off the dirt. To win the race, you need to do this as well.

Finally, you may want to take off the body and see if any parts need lubricating. Many new cars come well oiled, but some don't. Taking a quick look under the hood will tell you if you need to oil the car or not.

The last thing you need to win slot car races is experience. The only way you are going to get this is through practice, practice and more practice. You have to learn what your car can and cannot do. Practice changing speeds on the straights and bends. Slot car races are a lot of fun and nothing beats the rush of taking 1st place.
