When you start getting into the world of remote control cars, you will be presented with a choice. Will it be the electric remote control cars or nitro cars? We here at MagnetMarshal.com are here to help you make the best decision. Let's take a look at the difference between the two and help you make the right choice for your budget and your commitment to the hobby.
Electric remote control cars
These remote control cars run on battery packs and have electric motors powering the car. This means that you need to fully charge the car up before you start racing and it also helps to have a backup battery as well, just so the fun doesn't have to stop when the juice runs out.
An off road electric remote control car can reach speeds between 15 to 30pmh. The on road version can get up to 40mph. You should be aware that when you run the electric remote control cars at full speeds, the battery is going to last about fifteen minutes. So you will want to have a few packs ready and charged up when you take your car outside. It usually takes about half an hour to recharge a battery, so if you are near a power source, you can keep alternating the batteries all day long!
The electric car is recommended for people who are just getting into the hobby. They are considerably cheaper than a nitro car as well as being quieter and much easy to handle.
Nitro remote control cars
These are for the serious hobbyist. Nitro cars run on special nitro fuel. It is not as flammable as gasoline, but it can still catch on fire. You will also be able to smell and see the exhaust being produced by powerful cars as they race around a track.
Typically, a full tank of gas will last about 15 minutes, after that it will be time to pull into the pit stop and re-fuel. The car can keep on racing for as long as your nitro supply lasts.
Expect a top speed of about 60mph. Experienced drivers can run these machines to even higher speeds and you will be able to as well, as soon as your skill level and knowledge increase.
These are defiantly for the experienced driver and it is advised that you learn how to handle electric remote control cars before you progress onto nitro. Trying to turn a nitro car going 60mph when you have never handled one is a scary experience! So take your time and before you know it, you will be a master of the racetrack.
